MINDFUL PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

Connection

Creativity

Compassion

Mindful Nature Photography was one of the most important investments in myself that I have ever made.  Sonya showed me how to deeply connect to nature, and that is such a valuable thing.

Put simply - it makes you feel better.

Frankie, Hampshire

I liked the sense of community created within the group, subtly encouraged by you, Sonya. It felt safe to reveal/explore/explain thoughts and feelings.

Kay, France

  • What you'll learn

Mindful photography exercises. Mindfulness and meditation basics. How to calm your mind and develop gratitude & mindful compassion through photography. The miracle of mindfulness and nature connection for resilience. The five pathways to nature connectedness.

  • Who the course is for

  • What you'll need

Any kind of digital camera, including a mobile phone for the photography exercises which are mostly done outdoors so access to a garden is ideal. It's best to join the zoom session on your laptop or tablet which can remain indoors.

The course helped me give myself permission to just “be” in nature, and to take my time enjoying my surroundings.

I liked that it was a small group – as an introvert I find larger groups intimidating so this worked well for me.

Cathy, Berkshire

Sonya created the chemistry, and a progressive bond within the group developed that allowed us to talk about personal mental health. I find myself now slowing down and really immersing myself in my surroundings and feeling much calmer and stronger as I go through my day.

Barrie, Devon

Good morning and happy Sunday! Have you heard of the Japanese word komorebi 木漏れ日? It’s made up of the kanji characters for tree (木), shine through (漏れ), and sun (日) and is best translated as sunlight leaking through trees casting dancing shadows on the forest floor. The Japanese language emphasises the evocative and poetic and having a specific word for "komorebi" reflects a cultural sensitivity to subtle natural beauty, What can komorebi teach us? It’s a whisper of wisdom, reminding us to: 🌳See beauty in the small: Savour the dewdrop's sparkle, the bark's intricate dance. Life's magic blooms in quiet moments. 🌳Find light in the dark: Even when shadows loom, komorebi shows us a path through, a flicker of hope that guides our way. 🌳Live in harmony with nature: We're not separate, but part of the forest's tapestry. Breathe deep, connect, and find peace. 🌳Embrace the fleeting: Like komorebi's fleeting dance, savour the present. Let go, appreciate, and dance with life's ever-changing light. There are actually loads of beautiful and inspirational words in the Japanese language, and I’ll be sharing them with you over the coming weeks. If you know any, let me know! When you're learning to become any kind of therapist one of the journeys you take is getting to know yourself better. It's so important to experience how the natural world helps to bring into awareness and then break down barriers, so that you are able to guide from the heart and a place of knowing. Ex NHS nurse Clare found an oasis of calm and belonging in our face to face Forest Bathing Guide training. Read her inspiring story of stress relief, personal growth, and finding her tribe in the woods. "As an introvert the thought of meeting up with 6 ‘strangers’ was a really daunting feeling. The nerves were on overdrive as I drove down the tree lined road to my new office for the week, the woods. Those nerves instantly disappeared as I was greeted with the biggest hug from Sonya. As the week went on those ‘strangers’ became friends as we shared some really personal stories and feelings. I have never felt so calm and relaxed as I did that week in the woods. My niggly back pain had disappeared as I sat, legs stretched out, on the forest floor listening and learning. I learnt so much about myself that week and felt so connected to nature, it’s a really hard feeling to describe. As they say ‘you have to be there to really understand’. I am so excited to see where this journey takes me and I can’t wait to help others to experience what I’ve experienced. I couldn’t have done it without Sonya and my fellow acorns, they are all a blessing." I'm often asked if I do online only Forest Bathing Guide training and although I do, it really doesn't have the depth to it that comes from learning together in the woods for a week. That is where the transformation happens!

My son is obsessed with slugs and snails 🐌 And I wouldn’t have it any other way! 🌳Being a nature mumma means muddy boots, multiple ‘nature collection corners’ and endless curiosity. It’s also about slowing down, finding joy in the simple things, and learning to appreciate and respect every living being, element and season 🌱 💡The moment I realised I was going to be a Mum was the moment I knew my life needed to change. ❌No more travelling the world; getting vanished off stage by David Copperfield in Vegas, partying the nights away in Greece or working super long hours in Malaysia ✈️ No, it was time to settle down and teach me and my son to fall in love 🌈 with my backyard nature here in Winchester, UK. 👋🏼I’m Sonya, founder of Adore Your Outdoors. Join me on my adventures (and misadventures!) as I raise a little nature explorer and share my passion for the outdoors with the world 🌎 Follow along for messy nature fun, eco-friendly tips, and a healthy dose of mum-life realness! I had a very difficult morning yesterday with unwanted swimming lessons, impromptu poos and lots of tears (for the record, none of this was me but rather my small person’s!) so once home we went out for a walk around the village to clear our heads and reset the day. There’s so much beauty out there, look! Of course it worked and we felt loads better on return, ready for our jacket potatoes and Gladiators 💪 We’ve got another few days of this crisp winter cold before the rain return, so i strongly recommend you get out for a walk or into the garden today 💚 Photo IDs (I think): Viburnum Sorbus Pyracantha Ivy Nectria Canker fungus Larch cones 💚💚Hydrangea petals💚💚 Pencil cedar? #winterflowers #winterwalk #lovewinter #natureconnection #mindfulphotography #winchester #weekendwalks #familytime💕 #selfcarejourney #breatheinbreatheout
