Basing Wood covers approximately 120 hectares with trees up to 65 years old. It lies to the north of Basingstoke near Popley/Chineham. The woodland is Forestry England managed and has large numbers of conifers, in particular Scots Pine, Corsican Pine and Lawson’s Cypress (great for emitting those immune-boosting phytoncides!). There are smaller numbers of broadleaf trees including Oak, Ash and Alder. Some of the more common wildlife you may see in Basing Wood includes fallow, roe and muntjac deer, foxes, rabbits and many species of birds.
The route involves a gentle but fairly long hill (which we take slowly) and around 3000 steps.
